Bad actors

Most politicians are used to hibernating during the summer as well as during the other frequent and lengthy periods annually when parliament isn’t sitting.  A PR picnic euphemistically explained away as reaching out and connecting with constituents is usually the only hogwash to interrupt their slumbers.  However this year the primate minister disrupted the seasonal biorhythms of all political animals at the federal level by calling an autumn election early.  Then, he decided to stay the course by drifting off to sleep anyway; doing nothing had worked so often in the past.  Meanwhile, world events grew worse and Middle Eastern problems that he hoped would go away during his nap continued to grow until even the Canadian public knew that Ottawa was dithering.  Something had to be done: so the beast was roused.

It would seem that after sleepwalking his way through the first weeks of the campaign, the said leader awoke somewhat lethargically from his dormancy.  Although still muttering ‘Stay the Course’ with almost the same regularity he did while unconscious, it is uttered somewhat less complacently now because he is probably worried that he may have to show an almost humanlike interest in certain matters which he would sooner wash his hands of and leave for other countries to sort out.

Even as diverse Canadians increasingly look to Ottawa for action, growing numbers elsewhere will continue to drown or die tragically in other ways while some sit on their hands.  The government fumbled semi-mutely and waited in vain for a decision from its leader until some arcane numbers were finally invented to counter offers of aid made by rival leaders of the other federal parties.  But for now most of the unfortunates in question will  bravely continue to await the outcome of this political lottery before any of these promises of assistance can be redeemed or their vague targets reached.  In all likelihood something positive will ultimately come out of it all, but it may not be the current government that does it.  Meanwhile, the victims will just have to ‘stay the course’. There’s an election going on.

On a lighter note, at least we don’t live in a country that produces 'folliclely challenged' blowhard billionaires like that simian bozo south of the border who so loves to hear the sound of his own voice that he makes an ass of himself almost daily in the media.  In what kind of society would a significant percentage of right-wing (or any other kind of voters) view the likes of him as acceptable for its highest office?
